Local fans and racers to rally behind tribute race in his honor. Northern Minnesota dirt racing veteran Tom Waseleski Sr. started racing in 1980, competing in the Super Stock class, but soon graduated to Late Models where he spent the remainder of his career, until he retired from racing in 2013. He was a fierce and aggressive competitor on local tracks for over thirty years. He would wheel that iconic red #1w to numerous feature wins and track championships throughout the region. Tom won the 2001 Silver 1000 at Proctor Speedway, numerous Amsoil Series features, the 1992 Northern Nationals at Superior Speedway, and was inducted into the Hibbing Raceway Hall of Fame in 2019.
He also competed in the Show Me 100, East Bay Winternationals, the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway, and the Gopher 50. He had several dominating seasons in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, helping put CJ Rayburn Race Cars back in the spotlight. Tom's sons Tommy Jr. And Mike, both raced Late Models as well. Tom passed away unexpectedly in the fall of 2023. A special tribute race in his honor will be held this upcoming racing season at his home track, Hibbing Raceway, in Hibbing Minnesota, paying $11,111 to win on July 12, 2024. We certainly love all those doggone ones.....
