PBC SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Strengths
- Pioneers in Facebook reporting
- Travel coast-to-coast
- We send our own people
- Long list of financial supporters
- We are the go to source for race recaps with editorial & photos
- We are followed by drivers, race teams, spectators, racetracks, sanctioning bodies, sponsors, officials, and media
- We set our own schedule
- The only media outlet that regularly promotes tourism to entice fans into going for more than just to see a race
- Hosting daily Best Appearing Car Competitions allowing fans around the country to be part of the show by judging and learning more about racetracks they have never attended
- The journalist assigned has to do it all (writer, reporter, photographer, interviewer, play-by-play, and host BAC)
- Too small to hire a full-time professional staff
- Trying to turn race fans into journalists
- We have no exclusive sales associate or professional photographer
- Video commentary recaps throughout the night
- Partnering with Sanctioning Bodies
- Cover sanctioning bodies that receive very little national exposure
- Travel to new areas to acquire new followers
- Cover strictly big money pro sanctioned events that bring in a larger audience
- A part-time salesperson could send us into the stratosphere
- Plagiarism: armchair quarterbacks who sit at home and copy/paste lineups, results, and photos from people who hustle and actually attend these events
- Extremely high gasoline /hotel costs
- Tons of other reporters/photographers on site
- Poor cell reception
- Getting injured by a race car

Big Blue - Elkhorn Classic
May 31-June 1, 2024
We begin this SLMR double-header down in the southeastern part of Nebraska in Beatrice. This is where the mighty Big Blue River flows. It can become a raging river after heavy winter snowmelt and also during massive rainstorms. Then on day 2, we head to Norfolk where the mighty Elkhorn River flows. The same can be said of it during heavy snowmelt upstream. We pay homage to these 2 rivers that Mother Nature gave to us.
This 2-Day weekend is special in so many different ways. As a young man in my 20's, I promoted USA Cycling sanctioned bicycle races in both Beatrice and Norfolk. Secondly, Norfolk is of course my official hometown having lived there more than any other city throughout my life. But it's not just those 2 things that make it special. We will debut the newly wrapped Psycho Billy Cadillac 3.0 show car. So there you have it. Come hang out with us and Mother Nature and explore the great outdoors that Nebraska offers. And catch a lil stock car racing while here.

Norfolk Transmission & Muffler is currently offering $20 off transmission service. In 2023, they are celebrating their 50th Anniversary. This business was started by Sprint Car/Late Model driver, Kim Lingenfelter and is now run by his brother, Ron. Total class act.
I grew up in Norfolk and have lived here longer than any other city. There are 7 highways leading into Norfolk, hence the name, 7 Roads Tour. Back in it's heyday, Riviera Raceway produced some of the best dirt track racing in the country. The best rivalries that you could ever find existed right here. Colossal names in the sport that could run with anyone in the country in their respective classes. #legendary

9/14/14 We were going to add 2 more days of racing to our schedule (9/19-20 Menomonie, WI) but an emergency family issue came up for Psycho Billy. They have been waiting nearly a year for an Alzheimer's full care facility to open up for his father. His name was just pulled from a waiting list and he needs to be transferred next Friday. We wish their entire family the best during these troubling times.

7/24/14 World of Outlaws visiting Independence, IA. The surrounding areas of the Buchanan County Fairgrounds were filled with bicycles. RAGBRAI pulled into town the day after the Woo race. Ryan Clark and staff made us feel very welcome. Visiting Indy is always a pleasure. Lanigan is always very stout here. It was pretty cool seeing him jump on top of his roof in victory lane. No NASCAR rules here. It is all about having fun. Here are some visions from Indy. Long live dirt track racing!!!
7/24/14 Travelling info regarding the World of Outlaws in Independence, Iowa. Listed below is the Ragbrai route. There will be well over 10,000 bicycle riders on the route from Mason City to Waverly. A good majority of those riders may arrive at their overnight stop in Waverly prior to 6:00 PM. If coming in from the west/northwest, you may want to take an alternate route to avoid any traffic issues. Or if curiosity gets the best of you, you might want to head into Waverly to see just how rapidly the population in this town has increased!

6/29/14 We love to see great young talent make it to the next level. But sometimes it can be so sad for us hard core dirt late model fans. The driver that we are spotlighting is Tyler Reddick. He drove that Broken Bow / Gaerte Engines / Bloomquist car as hard as he could. He entertained quite a few of us along the way. He won many a fans. It is now time for us, the fans, to salute him. He has 120 career wins, 3 national championships, 5 rookie of the year titles, youngest driver to win a Lucas Oil Late Model event, youngest driver to start a World of Outlaws event, youngest to make the World 100 starting lineup, 4th at the 2011 Knoxville LM Nationals, and 5th at the 2011 Topless 100. He is now running the #19 on the Nascar Camping World Truck Series. This team is owned by Brad Keselowski Racing. Cheers to greater success on the asphalt circuit! You will certainly be missed!!!

6/26/14 Here are a few extra shots that we pulled from our phone camera. They were taken at the May 4 Deery Brothers at Quad City Speedway in East Moline, IL. This was the drawing for the A Main lineup. We love going to Quad Cities and really love the intense, fierce racing on small bull rings such as this. Any super late model special event that comes here, we are there!!!
6/26/14 We retrieved some additional pics taken from our phone. This is from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event in Paducah, KY on May 3, 2014. Jill and self really enjoyed this 3 race swing, especially our trip to Paducah. The staff was so friendly and made us feel like family. We anxiously await a return trip to this beautiful speed plant knows as PIR. Cheers!
Sights from Days 2 & 3 of the 2014 Show Me 100 in Wheatland, MO.
5/26/14 Day 3 at the Show Me 100 proved to be what will become one of the best dirt late model races of the year. Excellent field of cars. Fantastic crowd on hand. Tons of media. The weather was cooperative. People in the stands were pumping their fists into the air when their favorite driver advanced a spot, or in some cases when their least favorite driver lost a spot. Great memories were made.
The action really got intense in B Main #2. Chris Simpson shot out to an early lead and appeared to have the win in the bag. He, of course, finished 2nd in last year's Show Me. It was not to be. In the closing laps, John Blankenship overtook Simpson and built a bit of a lead. Things got extremely heated as Matt Furman went around Chris Simpson. Only 2 would advance in each B Main. Simpson fought back and it was tooth and nail with Furman prevailing. Kudos to the "Furmanator". We have been watching him improve throughout the past decade. The future is bright for this young talent!
We were all so very pleased when we found out that 32 of the best drivers in the country would start the A Main. This is the way all big shows should be. Living in Nebraska, we are accustomed to it as I-80 Speedway has done this for years with all of their super late model special events. Tony Jackson Jr won the pole for this year's event. He would start beside Mike Marlar. Jesse Stovall really ignited the crowd when he led early. He was riding the cushion just about as hard as humanly possible. It came back to bite him as he used up his equipment just a bit and faded to 7th by events conclusion. Still a fantastic run for one of Missouri's best!
Jackson, the pole sitter, brought out the first caution on lap 31. He ended up retiring with a 26th place finish. A couple of cars stood out as best looking. Wendell Wallace had a really sweet looking machine. We at Psycho Billy tip our hat to Jason Bodenhamer who had a red/white/blue Evil Knievel wrap. Very cool. It sounds like a 50 cent water pump gasket caused him to retire with a 24th place finish.
Another quick caution came on lap 34 when Billy Moyer Jr and Terry Phillips got tangled up coming out of turn 4. They both ended the night with 25th and 23rd place finishes respectfully. Then 23 laps were run before a lap 57 caution. Jared Landers flatted and pulled to a stop coming out of turn 4. Landers ended the night with a 16th place finish.
"The Real Deal" Don O'Neal was the class of the field on this particular evening. "The Hurricane" Earl Pearson Jr is back on form after quite a few agonizing years. Welcome back Earl! He was the hard charger coming all the way from 24th. Another man on the move was Bobby Pierce. He made a run from 12th to 3rd. He has been picking up new fans each and every week and finally got a souvenir trailer prior to the Lucas Oil race in Macon. Our nephew, who has only attended a handful of races, has become a big fan of Pierce. Scott Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens (winner of 3 straight Show Me 100's) kind of stayed status quo. They each advanced one position from their 5th and 6th starting spots. We also want to give a shout out to Steve Francis who struggled in the time trial, heat, and B Main. He used a provisional to gain a starting spot in the big dance. He advanced from 25th to 8th. Hard work does pay off in the end!

5/11/14 Happy Mother's Day to all of you special ladies out there! We are getting amped up for our next series of races. We will be at all 3 days of the Show Me 100 in Wheatland, MO on May 22-24. The first day will be an MLRA sanctioned event. The next two days will be sanctioned by both the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the MLRA. We will then go to Monett, MO on May 25 for the MARS Dirtcar Series late model special. We hope to see many of you there! Set aside some time to hit this series of events! We are expecting to see spectators from as many as 20 different states plus several other countries. We will be interviewing tailgaters and campers each day. We will post your name and city along with your pic for that particular evening Late Model A Main. 5/4/14 Deery Brothers in East Moline, IL. Thanks go out to the entire staff at Quad City Speedway for hosting the Hershel Roberts Memorial, $3000 to Win, Deery Brothers Summer Series late model special. Not all of the drivers may like getting their cars banged up at these little bull rings. But the fans sure get tons and tons of enjoyment out of it. This is a super nice stadium considering it has been around for ages. It is truly a pleasure to see the touring late models come here.
One of the tailgaters that we spoke to was Steve Clark from Davenport, IA. He is picking Ray Guss Jr to win the big show. Steve has known the Guss family for decades. He has a racing wall in his home with a lot of memorabilia. He states that he has every Ray Guss Jr shirt ever made. Including a glass framed one with both Guss Jr and Guss Sr signatures. Priceless!
Below are a few sights from this Sunday evening in early May.

5/3/14 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in Paducah, KY. In pic #2, Get 'em started when they are young! This will allow our sport to grow and flourish in future years. We would like to thank Tiffany and staff for hosting this wonderful Lucas Oil event and rolling out the red carpet for us. It was a very pleasant trip, fantastic venue, competitive events, and just a well run show.
We met with a bunch of tailgaters prior to the show. Finding out where they are from and who their pics are for the big A Main. Scott Bloomquist was the overall concensus pic for victory amongst those we spoke to. Pic 2 is of Isaac and Ian Meyer from Union, MO. They got into racing one year ago and love late models. Their pic this evening is young phenom, Bobby Pierce. Jim Lynn from Evansville, IN says Don O'Neill will win. Greg Glover from West Memphis, AR picks Scott Bloomquist. Jason Dunavant from South Haven, MS is also pulling for Black Sunshine. Shawn and Amy Southard from West Frankfort, IL are rooting for Scott Bloomquist. Larry Newell from Evansville, IN is rooting for Bobby Pierce. Dan Grinnell from Trezbent, TN is pulling for his homestate hero, Scott Bloomquist. Ronnie Lee from Campbellsville, KY picks the "Real Deal" Don O'Neill. The last tailgater that we ran into is a late model racer himself. Jim Sloan from West Frankfort, IL would love to see the "Ice Man" Jimmy Mars pull into victory lane.

4/19/14 Slocum 50, 34 Raceway, Burlington, IA
First of all, we would like to give a shout out to Amy and the rest of the staff at 34 Raceway for making us feel welcome. This truly is a wonderful place to attend a stock car race. We have been here before for a couple of the Deery Brothers Pepsi USA Nationals. The year that Darren "The Thriller" Miller won, was a very exciting race. I am pretty sure that this is the first open late model show that we have witnessed here. It was fantastic!
When there are so many "big guns" in the house, time trials are the best way to go as far as the drivers are concerned. Spectators typically prefer heat races by draw. But when you have stellar fields like this, the great drivers are given the best opportunity to earn a spot in the A Main. Drivers who do not make the A, simply have no excuses. Hopefully they will up the ante next year and run 75-100 laps. A member of the Slocum family was talking about making this event bigger and better. Now, wouldn't that make this event even more special!!!
Twenty four cars started the A Main. Fifteen advanced through the Heats, six through the B Mains, and there were three provisionals. It was a 50 lap event paying $10,555 to win with last place paying $500! With 13 laps completed and 37 to go, the 2nd and 3rd place cars of Jason Utter and Brian Shirley got together in turns 1 & 2. Utter spun and Shirley continued on. Utter was sent to the back and retired a couple laps later. Then with 32 down and 18 to go, it was Brian Shirley again bringing out the caution. He jumped the cushion in 3 & 4 and slammed into the wall. The pit area was his next destination. Bobby Pierce was the class of the field and led nearly all of the laps. He was followed to the checkers by Jason Feger, Brandon Sheppard, Brian Birkhofer, and Jimmy Mars. for a complete rundown, click on our results tab. The next stop for Psycho Billy will be the May 1-4 swing with 3 Lucas Oil events in Macon, Pontoon Beach, and Paducah followed by a Deery Brothers show in East Moline. Hope to see you all there! Keep it between the ditches! Ciao

4/18/14 Pics from the CBC/MARS race at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, IA
4/18/14 We are very amped about the triple header in Iowa/Illinois this weekend. With 3 different late model sanctioning bodies (ALMS, CBC, and MARS) going head-to-head, makes it all the more enticing! Davenport Speedway in Davenport, IA paying $3500 to win on Friday night, 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA paying $10,555 to win on Saturday night, and Quincy Raceway in Quincy, IL paying $2000 to win on Easter Sunday. Cam Granger could be called the "Sheriff of Iowa" as he runs the only super late model travelling series based out of this wondrous state. He started his travelling show where the WDRL left off. We really appreciate all the work that Cam and staff have done here in the Midwest! He will be bringing in a hearty crew of drivers. The MARS series based out of Monett, MO has always had a strong field of drivers with champions like Bill Frye, Terry Phillips, Jesse Stovall, Brad Looney, and Tony Jackson Jr. This will be their first trip ever to these 3 super speedways. The ALMS is a somewhat new series. It also kind of filled a void after the NALMS series evaporated. They have put together a mighty strong racing series for 2014.
