The MLRA touring series is back. But drivers who were top 5 in points 2 years ago after they shut down were.Chad Simpson & Chris Simpson top 2 who were not in attendance and not chasing points. Tony Jackson Jr who placed 3rd, but will be running the CCSDS. Dillon McCowan who placed 4th who is running LOLMDS. And 5th place Trevor Gundaker who also did not race and is not chasing points. Therefore the 2026 season is wide open. It should be interesting.

Time Trials got kick started with a 75° high temp today. As I told many pitside, this was my Georgia-Florida Speedweeks! It was chilly when I left Burlington, some 20° colder and snow is expected Sunday night! Group A Qualifying was quickest once again. Some pitside were saying Derrick Stewart would have the best shot at winning this championship. But he was a DNF last night placing dead last. Not a great way to begin opening points night. But he rebounded nicely with fast time overall.

Group A Top 5
1. 43 Derrick Stewart 12.337
2. 56 Tony Jackson Jr 12.358
15s Clay Stuckey 12.358
4. 4TW Tim Ward 12.386
5. 12c Scott Crigler 12.412

Group B Top 5
1. 21 Billy Moyer 12.430
2. 66R Eli Ross 12.516
3. 8k Tyler Kuykendall 12.580
4. 8L Matthew Larson 12.723
5. 8M Dillon McCowan 12.729

Then on to 4 heat races. We had 37 entries compared to 40 last night. We lost a bunch. But then we gained a handful of new ones too. So all is good. I like seeing new blood. As long as it's not pouring out of my body. If you know what I mean. Lol.
Heat Race #1 went to Jackson Jr over Stewart and Brennon Willard. Heat 2 saw Stuckey seal the deal over Illinois boys, Mike Spatola and Caden McWhorter. Heat 3 was the G.O.A.T. Billy Moyer over McCowan and Kuykendall. Heat 4 was all Ross leading the posse of Jeff Herzog and Glen Powell. That moved 12 drivers forward.

There would be 2 B Mains with each advancing a cool 4 cars apiece. In B Main #1, Sawyer Crigler vaulted 2 as if he were in a 4 State Dirt Late Model Series event getting the win over Tim Ward, Terry Phillips, and Aaron Marrant. B Main #2 was all Daniel Adam out in front of Timmy Culp, Tucker Cox, and Corey Zeitner. There would only be 3 provisionals tonight. Steve Stultz, Kayden Clatt, and Shane DeMey would be moving forward into the A Main Event.

Another 30 lapper was on tap. Track promoter Jerry Hoffman is also the track prep guru. He keeps watering and working the track as if it were a piece of golden acres farmland that he is so familiar with. It was in great racing condition once again. These early season shows may lead to rough surfaces in some areas. But as a media person who looks out for the fans, there was a bottom groove, middle groove, and top groove both nights. This is what I expect to see at every facility I visit. Kudos to Jerry. Come visit this track sometime. They host quite a few 4 State Dirt Late Model Series shows plus we hope to be back for the Summer Nationals Hell Tour. You have a wide variety of options!

This one got off to a quirky start. Heartbreak for several drivers. Both Billy Moyer and Daniel Adam came out for the 4 wide salute and warm up laps. But both had something break. Neither started the event. They delayed the start giving both drivers, especially Adam who was off turn 3 furiously working on it trying to fix the issue. But the tow truck ended up hauling it away. So we only had 21 starters instead of 23.

Tony Jackson Jr jumped out to the lead on lap 1. I thought here we go again. In every race. Both nights. He easily gapped everyone at the drop of the green. But not tonight. It was the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series driver, Dillon McCowan, who flew by on the high side igniting the crowd. Both of these gentlemen are from nearby towns in Missouri. There was surely a clashing amongst the fan base. The fans did come out in full force tonight which was so great to see. McCowan would grab the lead on lap 11 but Jackson Jr drove like a crafty ole Mark Martin. He patiently watched McCowan's line. He would stay a close 2nd for 5 laps and then showed the 8 team who rules the roost here in Springfield Town.

Jackson Jr would lead laps 16-19 but McCowan wasn't about to give up. I'll be dawned if he didn't come back around the fiddy six to take the point! But 1 lap out front was all he could muster. Tony Jackson Jr was shooting hoops and Mutton Busting. There would be a 5th lead change in this short 30 lapper. Which is rare. Rarely do I see any truly spectacular 25 or 30 lap races. But these last 2 nights were fabulous. Great car count. A wide variety of drivers from every which way.

And legend Terry Phillips, Springfield native, coming from 12th to 3rd earning both the Power Move of the Race and the Movers & Shakers award. This was truly unexpected. But he was solid and kept hustling. Mad, mad props! Timmy Culp and Aaron Marrant earned M & S honorable mention each passing 7 and 9 cars respectively.
