The Fight For The Title

Jonathan Davenport has been going by the nickname "Superman" for years. His hometown is Blairsville, Georgia and now resides in Pelzer, South Carolina. Davenport was the winner of the Eldora Million at Tony Stewart's famed Eldora Speedway. This is only the second time in history that this event has taken place for Late Models. Davenport won it on June 9, 2022 taking home $1,000,000. That season was the greatest season in dirt late model history for a single driver as he took home in excess of $2,000,000. JD loves riding motorcycles and fishing. He calls Eldora Speedway his favorite racetrack
As younger drivers, newer technology, and just plain getting older started coming into play, Davenport has fell off the win column in recent years. But he appears to have his eyes set on a 4th Lucas title and it's $200,000 top prize. This past weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entered it's Chase format. It's now in it's second year of copying what NASCAR uses to increase hype by wiping out all points and making everyone in the chase start off from zero. With rainouts in Brownstown and Chillicothe, Pittsburgh became the opening race weekend in the chase with a double-header. Davenport scored a 2nd place on opening night and a victory on night 2. After the final night, he went public with the fact that he brought his famous Eldora car to the track. We all knew then that it was game on. That the stakes are so high with everyone wanting to win, that they are bringing their best. You see, Davenport, like many other top drivers who have tremendous luck with certain cars at certain tracks, will only use that car at those tracks. Saving it exclusively for that venue. Knowing that it is the closest thing to a sure-fire victory. And for Davenport getting a 1st and 2nd, it was a very good call. Eldora is the final in the chase coming up in 2 weeks. Davenport could very well be the odds-on favorite to take the championship and the loot that goes along with it. In his bio, as his most wanted win, he has the Dirt Track World Championship listed. That race is the finale at Eldora Speedway. His favorite racetrack. His most successful racetrack.
Davenport's list of Championships and Crown Jewel wins is something of awe to look at.

Contender number 2 is Devin Moran (Dresden, Ohio) who won opening night in Pittsburgh and placed 2nd on night 2. He basically swapped positions with Davenport. His nickname is the "Mailman". He delivers the goods. What he did deliver was quick time on night 1. This is something that Davenport did not obtain. Setting quick time in either Group A or Group B Time Trials earns you 10 bonus points. Moran picked up those bonus points earning that 10-point advantage places him in the lead going into the double-header in Brownstown, Indiana this coming weekend. This will be nights 3 and 4 in the chase with Eldora being the 5th and final night.
Moran was born on September 25, 1994. He is married to Lakia. He loves any type of sporting event and loves going boating and riding 4-wheelers. He began his racing career in 2009. His favorite racetrack is East Bay Raceway Park. His favorite race and most wanted win is the World 100 at Eldora Speedway. As stated on his website, his career goal is to win every Crown Jewel race that exists. Moran is in the prime of his career. He added the Silver Dollar Nationals this year and now has 2 Crown Jewel wins and needs to get rolling in this category to reach that lofty goal.
Moran's list of big wins:

Contender number 3 is Ricky Thornton Jr. He hails originally from Chandler, Arizona and is listed as still residing in Martinsville, Indiana. He was the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader from February through opening night of Pittsburgh when the points were reset and he slipped to 2nd after night 1. Although he finished 3rd behind Moran and Davenport, he picked up 10 points for quick time which left him with a 1/10 point lead over Davenport. RTJ as he is known, faded to 6th on night 2 in Pittsburgh which bumped him back to 3rd after night 2 in the points. The chase format was a bugaboo for him last year as he was clearly the most dominant driver in the entire country throughout all of 2023. But with the points reset and a little bad luck during the last couple of shows, the entire season seemed to slip away. Such is life.
Thornton Jr was born on September 28, 1990. He has been racing for 16 years. He races anything he can get his hands on and has won in everything that he has run with 403 career wins with 30+ championships per his last recorded report. His favorite food is chicken wings. His favorite hobby is playing golf. His favorite racetrack is Southwest Speedway in Dickinson, North Dakota. His racing heroes are Tony Stewart and Jimmy Owens. His most memorable moment is winning the Dirt Track World Championship with his family and car owner Todd Burns in attendance. The one race that has eluded him that he would most like to win is the Chili Bowl.

Contender number 4 is the man that we all know as T Mac, Tim McCreadie. He hails from Watertown, New York. Some insiders from back home know him as "New York Hardcore." He was born on April 12, 1974. He is married to Karen. They have 1 son (Gavin) and 1 daughter (Cambria). McCreadie followed in his fathers footsteps and started running Big Block Modifieds in 1996 and switched over to Late Models in 2003. He loves racing and spending time with his family. His favorite racetrack is Knoxville Raceway. His favorite race is the World 100. His most wanted win is the Dirt Late Model Dream. The moment that is most memorable for him is the day that he won $50,000 at the North/South 100 at Florence Speedway in 2017. His entire family was there to witness it. He shares his most favorite moment with the 2 years that he won the LOLMDS Championship in 2021 and 2022. This year he looks to add a 3rd title. Being a 3-time winner of the Jackson 100 which is this weekend in Brownstown, look for T Mac to rebound and make up some ground with these 2 points races!
