It was an eventful night with a handful of storylines. First off, it was a bit of a surprise that Mike Marlar did not attend. Many thought he was going to compete for the Lucas championship while teammate Tyler Bruening would be back chasing a Woo title.
In qualifying, Boom Briggs lost a left rear wheel. This occurred prior to a single lap being recorded. He would be out for the night.
Ryan Gustin slapped the wall in the A Main event on lap 12 while running a solid 3rd. This hit would take him out of the race.
Dan Ebert, chasing ROY honors in the Lucas tour, would be the highest finishing rookie, placing 17th out of 28 in his first ever LOLMDS event.
Last year's Lucas champ, Ricky Thornton Jr., would knock off a really good time in qualifying, placing 4th out of 22 in Group A. But starting outside pole in Heat Race #2, he would slip to 5th, one spot shy of a direct transfer into the A Main. Starting 2nd in B Main #1, he would pedal backwards, placing 3rd, taking the final transfer spot. Thornton Jr. would start 21st in the Main Event running status quo slipping 1 notch placing 22nd. This was obviously the biggest surprise of the evening as every level-headed person has him picked to repeat at Lucas champion.
Although Drake Troutman won't announce which tour he will follow in 2025 until after Georgia-Florida Speedweeks, it is expected by some that he will switch over to the WOOLMS tour. Troutman was rather solid tonight in his new ride with GR Smith crossing the line in 10th. However, Lucas officials would penalize Troutman 3 positions for jumping the last restart.
Jimmy Owens had to use a Lucas provisional tonight. Rolling off 23rd, Owens would be the Mover & Shaker. He was on a rail in this small community of Waynesville, Georgia, lighting up the scoreboard passing an amazing 17 cars ending his night in the #6 position.
The power move of the race was Jonathan Davenport. After a somewhat inconsistent year in 2024, Davenport in his new black colored wrapped Lance Landers Longhorn, would methodically advance from 9th to 2nd.
Tyler Bruening who led early laps 1-6 would slip to 2nd and then 3rd. It is very rare that a driver rebounds such as Bruening did on this 65° day at Golden Isles Speedway. On lap 36, he would move into 2nd passing Brandon Overton. Then on lap 42 would get by leader Wilson after Wilson collided with Michael Leach in the middle of turns 1 & 2. He was firing on all physical and mental cylinders and was dead set on claiming victory regardless.
